Envirothon
The Envirothon is an outdoor learning competition for high school students in grades 9-12. It is one of the states largest environmental education initiatives.
Each year the Freeborn County SWCD partners with 9 neighboring SWCDs to sponsor a Southeast Area
Envirothon in which teams compete in 5 environmental learning stations:
-
Soils
-
Wildlife
-
Water Resources
-
Forestry
-
Current Environmental Issue
What is the Envirothon?
Natural resource professionals staff the stations and provide a short presentation on each topic. Each team then completes a test before moving to the next station. Prior to the event, teams are given a 'Current Issue Scenario' to create a presentation and will present their ideas to a panel of judges. Scores from each station and the presentation are tallied together for a final score.

The top three teams advance to the State Envirothon Competition and winners at the State level advance to the National Envirothon where they compete for scholarships and other prizes.
