Each year our SWCD along with nine (9) neighboring SWCDs sponsor a south east Area Envirothon, where high school students compete in five (5) environmental stations consisting of soils, water resources, forestry, wildlife, and a current event.
Volunteers in Freeborn County receive a rain gauge and recording forms from the Freeborn County Environmental Services Department to record daily precipitation. Completed forms are sent to the SWCD where they are recorded for the State Climatology Office at the University of Minnesota. Contact the SWCD at 507-373-5607 if interested in volunteering.

Located in the Conservation Building during the fair you can find us with our SWCD booth, featuring cost share program, Best Management Practices, and other information concerning soil and water conservation.
DNR Well Monitoring
SWCD staff measures five DNR observation wells across the county for the depth of ground water. A steel tape is lowered down each well to a predetermined length and brought back up to determine how much of the tape returns wet.
