1940's

Gully erosion in field

Immediately following the Second World War, farmers and landowners were becoming alarmed at the rate of soil erosion and depletion of fertility and organic matter in the soil. This prompted several townships in Freeborn County to seek help.

1948

First board of supervisors

The Freeborn County Soil & Water Conservation District officially came into existence on May 10, 1948 after a referendum vote.  Soon after, the first supervisor election was held and the newly elected board met for the first time on  Thursday, August 4 1948 to determine conservation needs within the county.
